In Australia, 1932 Bill O'Brien and Harry Norville founded Breville Radio.  The name Breville is a derivative of the two mens names.  In the 1940s during World War II Breville's focus turned to manufacturing mine detectors. After the war, the radio company was sold and Breville focused on small appliances.  Throughout the 1960s and 1970s the company passionately focused on small appliances, forming the Breville Research and Development Centre.  In 1974 Breville had one of the most successful launches in Australia, they launced the SnacknSandwich toaster, and in 1977 came Australia's first food processor.  In the 1980s Breville turned it's attention onto the working women and developed a line of products such as blenders, yogurt makers and waffles, resulting in saving the everyday person time in the kitchen.  In the 1990s Breville responded to healthy lifestyle and living by developing high performance appliances such as the wok and health grills.  In the 2001 Housewares International Limited, an Australian based company, acquires Breville and continues to demonstrate Breville's commitment to innovation and design by expanding the Breville Research and Design Centre.  Breville also turns it's focus to conquering the American market by introducing its products.
